The event started at 6:30pm and since I'm on the steering committee, I needed to be there at 6:00pm to help with set-up! Since I was in such a rush, I stopped by the grocery store to pick up my ingredients. I wanted a whole-wheat baguette. They only had regular French bread! I started picking up ingredients for a spinach dip, but had no time to prep it... so I bought pre-made dip instead! I totally broke my homemade rule!
I rushed home, assembled everything and tossed the bread in the oven to toast. They only needed a couple of minutes. Instead of standing there and waiting until they were done, I decided to start some other tasks... and before you know it, I burned the baguettes! I was so frustrated! Here I am, a foodie with a food business who just burnt the food! Whaaaat??? Well, I plated everything up and rushed out of the door. Pulse racing because by this time, it's 6:30pm already. Not only am I late, but I'm bringing burnt baguettes!
When I walk through the door, I wasn't greeted by hateful stares, nor was I addressed with "Why are you late?" But rather, my fellow MOPS moms smiled, hugged me and the fun commenced. Through the course of the evening the laughter helped me forget about the stress of the day and my massive to do list at home! By the end of the night, only two slices of my burnt baguettes were left! I guess they weren't so bad after all.
Lesson Learned: Who cares if you burn the baguettes! Sometimes the effort is enough! For all of the Type-A moms out there, take it from me-- it's not that serious! As Sweet Pea says, "Take a deep breath, and count to four!" Someone will eat the baguettes! :)
